I Have Changed Over The Years

When I was in my late teens/early twenties I dreamt of reading any book, watching any movie, listening to any music...in the world. Only those I considered good, of course. Then, some day everything would click in my mind, and I would understand how people and the world work. Was it the ambition of a person who felt all the time in the world, or was I a jerk?

Years passed, I realised that observing people would give me more answers than reading books. I realised too that I would never know all the answers.

Even more important, I realised that focusing in very few people was better than superficially knowing many of then. And that wanting to do it out of love was much better than out of thirst for knowledge. I realised that depth meant much more than width.

I was a jerk back then after all.

I think we're all jerks to some extent when we're young, if we're lucky enough to have a youth. I try to be kind to my young memories...they didn't know better. It's the people who are old jerks that have no excuse. LOL

@JustNik: If we are lucky enough to have a youth...great words, we must not take for granted that everyone has one

@Cierzo: some of the best kids I've known didn't get much chance to be kids, but it can have ill effects as well and it's always sort of sad. I imagine you teachers see a great deal of it.

I love your thoughts now, how you were when you were younger and how the older you sees the younger you. It makes me see how introspective you are and makes it all the clearer why we feel each other so close. 😊

@novembermoon: The younger me was naive, but too arrogant. I prefer the older version, with all his flaws.
