I Have Changed Over The Years

I am now what people call 'conservative'. Nothing but a label, but it explains quite accurately the way I have changed. And I think I am not the only one.

When I was young, I felt I did not fit in the world. Pretty common feeling, I guess. Of course, I did not think I might have a problem. It was the world that was wrong. The ideas and principles that ruled it were wrong. Traditional things were wrong and hate to disappear. Lasting in time made everything look suspicious.

With the years passing, I noticed that it was mostly me that was wrong. And that I was responsible of what had happened in my life, not the environment. I realised that there was nothing wrong with tradition. I thought that there must be a good reason for some thoughts to survive through the centuries while others fade away and die. I saw that the system is flawed, the world is quite screwed up, but it cannot be blamed for everything.

Conservative? Me.

You changed for the better I think. Knowing you as the person now, I find it hard to imagine someone who is victimistic in the past. think I have changed for the worse. I had always thought it was me who has control over my circumstances, that through hard work I could overcome the odds. However, I found it not to be true, that one person's path could be screwed by another's folly. I believe attributing it to external forces makes certain situations even more helpless, but it's hard to think otherwise sometimes.

I was victimistic, very much. Thank God I left it behind.
I don't think you have changed for the worse. It is delusory to think we have a total control of our lives. External forces play a role, but blaming them is an easy way to escape our responsibility.
