I Have Changed Over The Years
Watching the National Day parade of a country that I hold very close to my heart makes me realise (again) how I have changed through the years.
I used to think such parades, with patriotic speeches and people waving flags, were deeply kitsch. I still think they are, but (apart from understanding the importance of patriotism) my opinion on kitsch (in general) has changed, for better.
Kitsch is the opposite of pretentious. Kitsch has innocence. Kitsch is naive. Kitsch is not intellectual or high-brow. Kitsch portrays what I appreciate and look for now.
