Mad cow disease in U.S.?

trackboy22-25, M
the scary thing about the mad cow is its a prion, not a bacteria or virus. It cant be killed by cooking the meat. so even if you cook it to well done you will still get infected by it. It's some kind of protein that causes other proteins to be made by it when they are in contact with it. No one knows how it really works and there is no way to stop it. fields mad cows have been in become infected and any cows that graze there become infected too. It is one of those nightmare things that can kill off all animal life if it spreads. 馃

@cupidnpsyche it was a science fiction story of what could have happened if they did not stop the mad cow in its tracks. now cows are only fed plants no animal products at all. downer cows, that's cows that are not able to walk are no longer accepted at food plants. there is the inspection of the brains of each cow looking for the telltale holes in the brain caused by mad cow disease. and there is the monitoring of the herds here. it is one of the most dangerous foods born illnesses as cooking does nothing to kill it. and there is a problem for surgery as prions are not killed in the autoclaves used to sterilize surgical instruments. 馃

@cupidnpsyche It's tested and they changed the feeding practices that allowed cows to get mad cow before. 馃

Not that I know or heard of, but it apparently has affected all in the UK.

@ArcticDave It apparently has stayed in the shallow gene pool there and has been passed on to all new generations. UK folks proof everyday they are demented by the posts they make about USA politics that they should keep their noses out of.
