I Am Writing a Novel

Sometimes I feel like this novel is sucking the life out of me. Can I ever finish it or will it be one of those never-ending projects that is talked about with pity upon the author's death?

I have 200,000 words and 2 parts. I've planned for a 3rd part that I have yet to start. The story has become very convoluted by this point. That was always the intent, but now that I'm tasked with wrapping it all up, I wonder if I've bitten off more than I can chew.

The story is Kafkaesque; it concerns two college-aged friends who find themselves unwittingly involved up in an increasingly inscrutable conspiracy. I think about the novel all the time--I'm constantly planning and reworking and I don't even know whom I'm writing this for. I've only shared it with one friend who helps me edit it.

Oh well. Back to work 😩
A suggestion. There is a site called Scribophile. Free, unless you want the model with upgrades and heated seats.

There, you read the work of others and critique it, earning points to post your own. Like any site, there are a few picklepusses, but most read with an open mind and critique thoughtfully.

It's a great way to get opinions and suggestions from people other than you and your friend.

Scribophile.

@Mamapolo2016 Thank you. I'll look into it.
@SW-User Nothing encourages a writer to write like readers who read. Might give you the novel-finishing kick in the pants you need.

I wish you the best in your writing. I wrote a novel when I was younger. First two parts basically wrote themselves but that last part.... it never did make its story known.

@Princessvampilia Thank you. I've completed one novel already, but it was much shorter and much simpler. This one will be a more significant achievement.

Keep at it 👍 I love writing as well but don’t really have the time so I just write for my pleasure occasionally. I use Wattpad too where you can post your stuff and read others as well

Reading a book called “Plot Perfect” by Paula Meunier. It is helping me with structuring the components of a Novel in a systematic method. I read “The Castle” and “The Trial” with K as the main character when I was 20.
Kafka is quite the author to emulate.

I know the feeling that a novel is sucking the life out, I made similar experiences. I finished five novels till now and write my 6th novel currently - it is a Fantasy story, and longer than all my former works.

By the way, as I started writing stories, I also wrote some storys with a Kafka touch. I wish you the best in your writing and hope you will complete your novel successfully.
