I Want to Wish All the Mothers a Happy Mothers Day

Yeah, but do any of y'all know where Mother's Day comes from? I didn't either... until recently. I still don't know allthe details. However, there once was a woman named Anna Jarvis who's daughter loved and appreciated her soo much that she campaigned to start the holiday in honor of her. She was from a small town south of Morgantown. WV. Anyway, when commercialism got ahold of the holiday, the daughter freaked out. She felt it took away from what her original intention was... to honor mothers and not to make money. Interesting, huh? Well, believe it or not... they turned her house into a museum and named scools and buildings and parks after her. So, her name lives on.

The U.S.-derived modern version of Mother's Day has been criticized for having become too commercialized. Founder Jarvis herself regretted this commercialism and expressed views on how that was never her intention.

@jennypenny interesting! I believe that I heard something about her daughter's distaste for the commercialism of the holiday.

@jennypenny interesting! I believe that I heard something about her daughter's distaste for the commercialism of the holiday. But think about it... if we can commercialize the birth of Christ, why not the celebration of mothers?
