I Hate People Who Think Its Funny To Hurt Animals

My dog looks similar to the dog on the photo of this group, but without the injuries. She is from a spanish shelter, where unwanted dogs where kept to be killed. I know very little about her past, just that she got out of the shelter before it was her turn. Someone thought she was a beagle and could be sold as a pure-bred dog. She was rescued and given to me two years ago. It took some time until she started to show happiness, but she's trusted me ever since I got her which is remarkable.

She's missing a part of her tail. Someone cut it off purposely either to hurt her or to turn her into a hunting dog. The second possibility is quite likely, because many hunting dogs who aren't successful are brought to killing shelters. Dogs show their emotions through tail posture and it's nothing a person should take away for any reason.

I just don't understand it. She's the nicest dog I've ever met and the whole neighbourhood is fond of her. How can you hurt a being that trusts you unconditionally and is weaker than you? Or any creature at all? It's just so selfish. I often see small children chasing and scaring the pigeons in town or even teasing their own pets. When I tell them to stop it, the parents just look at me like I'm making a fuss out of nothing. When I was a kid I was told not hurt anyone including animals. They don't live for our entertainment and they should be able get some peace.
