@LookingForIt987 4 years , 50m ? That’s a great deal . Jones is the worst owner ? He bought a franchise for 150M , now it’s worth 4.5 B... sounds like a very smart man to me . What have you done??

@saragoodtimes It pains me to say it, but I think Dallas is pretty good this year. I think the Eagles are better, and win the division, but it won't be a cake walk like it has been in years past for one team. NY and Washington are both terrible, though.

As for the Phillies... yes, I think they did. I preferred Machado (and still do) because he's a better fielder at a more "valuable" position. But Harper is going to be very good, and some years great. The contract is structured in a way to allow the Phillies to have plenty of room to spend elsewhere.

Now if they'd only fire McPhail, Klentak, and Kapler...

@TexChik NFL contracts are weird. It's $50 mil guaranteed over 6 years, but it's worth over $90 for six, and $103 for eight years. (source: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001047218/article/ezekiel-elliott-signs-sixyear-90m-contract-extension#targetText=The%20contract%20extension%20makes%20Elliott,interview%20Wednesday%20morning%20with%20CNBC. ) Again, NFL contracts are weird; so it's not unreasonable to call it $50 million (the guaranteed money), but the better description of the contract is probably 6 years, $90 mil - I'd be shocked if he's with the Cowboys for the full 8 years and $103 million.

As for Jones, he was a great owner, no doubt, when he bought the team. The Cowboys were an embarrassment. Whether Jones gets the credit for winning or Jimmy Johnson does (I go with the latter, personally), the fact of the matter is that now Jerry Jones is a bad GM - and the fact that he doesn't hire a real GM makes him a bad owner. They've given out some very large contracts lately - some of them to positions without much value in today's NFL, such as the $63 million to a linebacker. They have skill position players who will want to get paid - Prescott among them - and these large contracts to players who won't be worth the money will put them in a bind. Elliott is the highest paid RB in the league, but he's not the best RB in the league. At best, he's third behind Gurley and Barkley.

The contract to Lawrence is a good one, as long as he keeps producing like he did in '17 and '18. Good pass rushers are worth the money, but they also tend to fade quickly (as do running backs - a big reason the Elliott contract will end up biting Dallas in the ass). The contract to Collins is also probably money well-spent. It's not huge money for a top of the line tackle - though usually the bigger contracts go to the left tackle and not the right. Still, tackles can play a long time as long as they stay healthy, and Collins has that sort of track record. But Dallas needs to figure out their cap so they can pay Prescott and Cooper, among others. Jones isn't very good at cap manipulation - never has been, really. We'll see where they are in 2020 and 2021. My guess is they'll stuck in salary cap hell.
