I Met Someone Famous

I had an interesting encounter with fame once.

I've been to four pop concerts in my life. And three of them were for a local group called Smokie... as in the song "Living next door to Alice".

My claim to fame is that I called one of em Dad.

There I was at their concert in the Bradford Alhambra theatre trying to make my way to the bar at half time when I noticed a little lass too young to get in stood by the door trying to attract the attention of a bloke near the bar. She was shouting "Dad!" but he couldn't hear her. So I made my way to the bar and looked at her and pointed to the bloke in front of me and she nodded "Yeah him!".

So I taps him on the shoulder and said "Hey Dad, you're wanted" and pointed toward the kid.

"Cheers Mate" he said and toddled off to see what sort of pop she wanted.

It was only Smokie's bloody bass player wasn't it!

It woulda been an ever better story if I could remember his name. 🥴

Dad is the one on the left. 😁
