I Drove A Car

I finished taking my driving lessons a few days ago. I loved them. Well, for the most part.

My driving instructor was the sweetest, nicest guy. He's a big guy. New Yorker. He looks like someone who would be in the cast of The Sopranos but he's actually a really great guy to talk to. He was very relaxed. I was glad that the only control he had of the car was just a brake whereas I was the one with the wheel. I like how he gave me direction only when needed. That when I made a mistake, he didn't yell at me or make me feel like an idiot for doing something wrong. In fact sometimes, he would fall asleep. LOL. Okay, so maybe that wasn't safe for him to do that but it did tell me two things. 1) he trusted me and 2) I was a peaceful driver.

I felt so good when I was behind the wheel. I felt free. My whole life, I've always been dependent on someone. Always having to go to someone or to follow someone instead of them following me. When I was behind the wheel, it was ME who was in the driver's seat. I was directing the car and I was in control. I made my own choices and learned from them.

We went to places like where I worked, the beach, and even the highway. The highway wasn't hard like my parents acted like it was. I went faster than normal but I was safe.

The only thing I didn't like about the lessons was that my instructor didn't go through with me a lot on what I would need to learn for the actual test. When we did practice, I was really bad at all of the maneuvers for the parking which is the whole test. He told me that I need to take three more lessons. I'm starting to wonder if this was a scam where he purposefully only shows me a little bit about what would be on the test so I would pay for more lessons. Even so, I'm not going to spend more money on the lessons and instead will practice with my dad.

I will always remember these lessons. Yes, there are still some things that need improvement such as changing lanes and parking but I know with practice, I will be a pro like a lot of other people I know. This is only the beginning.
