I Had Or Have To Wear A School Uniform

Parents in the UK are being ripped-off by being forced to buy over-priced, often poor quality, school uniforms from schools or school approved suppliers. Some impoverished families have to choose between buying food or buying a school uniform - so their children can make use of a, so-called, "free" public service.

This is an intolerable state of affairs that must not be allowed to continue. I implore all UK citizens to sign the petition to abolish school uniforms once and for all.

The petition is here -

Other countries manage very well, in most cases better, without school uniforms, there's no reason the UK shouldn't do just as well.

I am sorry but parents are encoraged to buy from UK, not local, suppliers and the school gets a cut. But in every town in the UK you will find hard working shops who supply school uniform and with experienced staff who can check size. And if everyone buys online these experts will disappear. Sometimes the old ways are best.

@Hepsie In England (and probably other countries of the UK) parents are required to buy uniforms from the school or the schools' official suppliers at vastly inflated prices. It one gigantic rip-off as shops wishing to be appointed as the official supplier have to pay an exorbitant bribe ("commission") to the school. Schools have even been known to demand to see receipt to prove unbranded items like socks, shoes and underwear was purchased from the official supplier.

At least one school has hit on yet another way to rip parents off by forcing them to buy their children's lunches from the school.

How long will it be before parents are required to do all their shopping at the school approved suppliers?

The great dictators of the past would be green with envy if they knew what schools are getting away with now.

Ok. Thank you, I didn’t know. In my country, part of UK, parents are under pressure to buy from the companies the school they get a cut. But parents are loyal to local companies. The companies who were there when they were kids. I only wear uniform Llanelli people made. I shall go to jail if that’s a problem. At least jail is so full of Llanelli people it’ll feel quite homely! @suzie1960

Nor in mine! Such would cause a riot. And people shot. As happened in my town when we rebelled against the monarchy. @dunpender

No. 1911. Just over a 100 years ago. The King sent in the soldiers to kill the people. Memories take a long time to die out. We were talking about it in class this week. There is a plaque on Union Bridge to remind us what the English did. @dunpender

You are misinformed, the King himself gave the order. You just don’t want to belive the English can be so cruel. @dunpender
