I Dont Like People

Becoming a full fledged hermit is quickly turning into an attractive idea.

You only need 1 or two people, and a pet. Anyone else is a bonus.
It's not as great as you may think.

@DesiredNightmare: not in the religious sense of the word, which is pretty much where the word originates. But choosing to live alone; see no one; have no intimate relationships, or friendships, doesn't mean you can't go buy groceries, go to a beach and enjoy the water, go to a movie, go for long walks. If being alone is a choice, one can always choose different for a few hours or minutes when it feels right.
@Serenitree: I took the term "full fledged" to mean he'd be avoiding contact with people. I may be wrong.

@DesiredNightmare: well to actually be full fledged, he'd have to join a hermitage and take vows, etc. I frequently go hermit for a couple of weeks, just to take a break from drama, of which there is plenty when you live in a retirement community. Even those in a hermitage must have some contact with people. There are needs that must be met. Even if they grow all their own food, there are things they need to purchase.

But the layman's use of the word hermit is much looser and doesn't require taking vows.
The older I get, the more I think this myself :p

Indeed. Always lived in my own head so it wouldn't be that much of an adjustment lol.

@cherryxblossom: Absolutely right.

That's sad. I like people as a rule. Of course there are some who are simply intolerable, but mostly I like people.
