I Lost My Job

Walked into a meeting with the boss today, HR was there. After 18 years i was handed a summary of my severance package and let go.

I feel a lot of stress and fear. I've survived multiple lay offs and didn't see this one coming. Was totally blindsided. I keep telling myself I've got time to figure something out and find a new job, but emotionally I'm a mess. Fear, anger, hurt... I've got it easy compared to a lot of people, but it's still a blow to my ego and the stress is real. Still have a family to support and I haven't had to job hunt in a long time.

Taking a couple days to process before transitioning my work and start looking for a new job.

I've been where you are. Twice !!
Best advice I can give you is get busy!!
Covering letters and CV's are a must, but probably of more value is your relationship with people you know!!
Contact ALL of them and say you need something quick!
No matter what it is.
It may not be ideal, but it might cover the rent, and give you a bit of breathing space.
There's also a theory that up to 60% of vacancies are never advertised as such !
Quite how true that is I don't know.
So a few well placed On Spec. letters might work better than applying for things you're unsure of.
It's a shitty business, losing your job. And I am sorry you're having to go through it.
But there are things that might work in your favour, if you get in there quick!
