The air battle for Normandy was fought March 6th 1944 ... 3 months earlier.
Eisenhauer said, "we must control the sky over Europe, before D-Day can be successful"
So, the 8th Air Force mounted the worlds biggest aerial attack ... with over 1,000 bombers and 2,000 fighters to go direct to Berlin in DAYLIGHT
Goering said no shadows of American bombers will ever fall on Berlin.
Thus, the biggest aerial battle ever occurred.
The Germans committed every plane and every reserve that day.
When it was over ... the German Luftwaffe never again came up in force ... and the path to Normandy was secure.
67 bombers were lost, with 9 man crews
Losses were staggering
But the battle was won ... D-Day was on!

@questionWeaver After the allies secured the beach’s. Eisenhower got in contact with the leaders of the French resistance. He apologized for any French that were killed due to bombers and the invasion. The French leaders said we accept any deaths in the fight for our freedom.
