I Want to Publish a Book

Starts To Finish... I started a book a couple of years ago and wrote on it for NaNoWriMo. I won the objective of 50000 words, but am still not finished with the book. I think the main thing that is holding me back is the need to earn a living meantimes. If I could have a good old-timey patron support me a few months then I could finish and I know it's a good story that I am putting my best into qualitatively... I need this to launch.

I don't understand. Are you asking for money?

If you're contributing, then yes.
I mean, is that the objective of posting this? It's the "good old-timey patron" part that I don't understand. What's an old-timey patron?

Once upon a time artists of all types would have patrons, people who just wanted to advance the arts, who would give them money to help them produce. In some ancient societies right through to the renaissance it was the state that would sponsor artists. Most of the great works of art that are a part of our cultural heritage would not have been produced were it not for patronage. Not how little patronage we have to day... compare that to the great works of art of out times... crap right? Direct relationship.
I will only agree with you considering you want to go the route of self-publication, but will you consider publishing through a publishing company if it comes to that?

Ohhh, I would love a publishing house to pick me up.
Well there you go. You should be asking them for help. Not us. We're all on SW because we're too poor to do something fun.

I wish you luck with your publication. From one writer to another.

Gee, thanks.
Publishing houses these days are acting like they're not in danger from online services, they still really only support their long-established writers.
