I Want to Tell You About My Grandparents
So, I learned about my grandparents' surprising past last week. For this story, I will use an initials system:
Maternal grandmother - J
Biological grandfather - A
J's husband (who is more of a grandfather than A) - B
B's ex-wife - R
I always kind of wondered why my grandparents got divorced and how J and B met. I found out that when J and A were married, they were friends with B and R, and always were visiting each other and travelled together. J and B eventually had an affair, which was usually after their spouses fell asleep.
Eventually, J told A what was going on and they got divorced. What I'm about to say was the most surprising. B, one of the nicest people I know, never told his wife. He just left one day and never came back. I didn't really even know he had a wife before, I just knew he had between 1 and 4 kids, and even that I didn't really know until a few years ago.
I was also told that affairs are more common than people think. My other pair of grandparents both had them, but they stayed married, and have been for over 57 years. One other thing I found surprising but knew for a while now was that they didn't get married for love, it was because my grandmother got pregnant. My dad realized they got married in February, and he was born in September.
It's just so weird that a lot of people would think that grandparents are so innocent, but they can have very surprising pasts.
