I Have Ideas
Most of us have no idea that you can have an adverse reaction to an RX drug that can change your appearance. Some drugs make you move unnaturally, with an over abundance of movements.
There are names for the types of onset for these conditions;
If it occurs shortly after introduction, it is considered as Acute dyskinesia.
If it occurs later, perhaps after increasing the dosage, it is called Tardive dyskinesia.
Rapid withdrawal from drugs that affect our neurotransmitters, can cause Drug Emergent Dyskinesia.
Mine should have been considered as Acute Dyskinesia. The prescribing Dr., admitted 15 days after he had been notified, that I had failed on this RX drug, (originally approved as an anti-epileptic drug) and that I was a little upset.
My original reaction was to withdraw from society, even though I told a friend that I was considering joining a freak show. Since that wasn't an option, I joined an online support group for people with Tardive dyskinesia.
Unfortunately, Experience Project closed down in April, 2016. I felt like it could have been used as an important teaching tool for doctors and medical students.
I decided to provide access to my former support group on my Twitter account. It is being followed by many doctors.
I hope that someday doctors will realize that less is better, when it comes to prescribing drugs that affect the mid brain area, where our neurotransmitters are produced.
I also wish that I had received proper warning. I found the worst side effects for Gabapentin, hidden on Drugs.com, under the section called,
"For Healthcare Professionals."
After 8 years of having to live with an RX drug-induced movement disorder, I finally found a new Dr., who is associated with a world renowned neurosurgeon, who comes from Swedish Medical Center, to his clinic every Friday.
Even though I haven't seen him yet, I feel a little more optimistic, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high.
