I Like Good Writers

I think this is a very good talk. I disagree with some of his points about writers not being able to provide people with the quality of storytelling they need. Not all content is good today, some might even be pushing quite a negative mentality at times but still it's something to reflect upon, some might not have that intellectually stimulating quality to it, some might do in just fragments, but there's definitely an abundance of amazing, thought provoking films, tv and novels out there from the 80s upwards as well and they're quite easily distinguishable from the rest of them. I think in a way they have become more increasingly about entertainment and commercial purposes but there's wrong with it in my opinion as many people just do want to have fun. I think good writers have a good mix of the philosophical thought provoking content audiences need and an exciting, entertaining story
They is always going to be critics. The quality of the story will always be able to fit someone's wants. I do like stories that are thought provoking. But many times just sheer brain candy works for me as well. One of my favorite forms of candy is just from sheer imagination. Like can the writer make a really awesome world. Can they make me feel like I'm in this large world. This is usually why I like details so much. It draws you in and fleshes out the story and makes you feel like the world is big and the reader can just get lost in it.
This is also often why I don't like horror. There tends not to be a story. It is all about trying to scared or in the case of some disturb the audience. Jump scares are cheap. They don't add suspense other than fear of when it will happen again. A very unpleasant feeling. Like the old Goosebumps series. A lot of that stuff was just freaky. That was an example of good horror.
I also like hopeful stories. I see enough of humanity tearing itself apart and while I can take it in my stories I want there to be a good ending for all the trouble. People would complain I'm not being realistic though. But to them I say, "Really? Fiction isn't realistic?" (sarcasm)
