I watched my sister's boyfriend kick the hell out of his dog every day... that seems to be how some people are because they are just mean hearted.

@SW-User I was a child, but I said how wrong it was and got told his dog deserved it for being a bad dog.

@SW-User This sounds familiar to me from my own family. People used to actually believe that hitting and kicking animals was the right way to deal with them. Still, they were harder on us kids.
