The notorious Italian lover and author Giacomo di Casanova (1725–1798) used to, before a very proper evening engagement, take a silk handkerchief… and wipe his genitals with it. Then, at the party, he would offer it to unsuspecting women to wipe their mouths, noses or eyes with it. As we know from his racy diaries, this would subtly (or not so subtly) arouse the noblewomen he targeted, and his alleged conquests were innumerable.
