I Am Unknown
Just another face in the crowd.
Most people are written off by each other rapidly. Skim the surface and get moving. Who cares what's behind someone else's walls or mask? Who cares what someone else thinks is there? They tend to be wrong anyway. (Because they don't care to see past the surface)
Every now and then, though, don't you make eye contact with that one person who you can tell in an instant knows. They know everyone when they see them. Everything is clear to that person, unhindered by preconceptions or belief systems . They don't need to try to read someone. They already know.
I can't tell if I think that person is "danger" or "safer." I can only see that this person is separate/different from the rest of us.
The world moves on around me and I rejoin it after making the split second assessment. I'm just a face in the crowd. That's what I want to be. Maybe that person with the clarity in their eyes saw that that's all there is with me.
