I Love Social Media

I don’t know why people say social media is toxic. I hear people saying reading people bragging about their “great” lives can be toxic. I guess I’m the only one who gets jazzed when I see people’s lives going well? Every time I see a post about one of my friends/followers/influencer getting engaged, pregnant, going on vacation, getting a new car etc I get super happy! It makes my day a little bit better to see someone else doing good for themselves 🤗 even the girls who just post selfies of themselves with their cute outfits and makeup. It looks like they’re having fun, so to me that’s a great thing!

Social media, the biggest collection of fiction writers on the planet.

@666Maggotz I never said I thought it toxic, in fact as a fiction writer myself I have found it fertile ground for characters.

Well then your comment is off topic on this post because this post was talking about how it’s not toxic. If you agree, then there’s no need to further debate with me 🤷‍♀️@lasergraph
Insecure people get upset when they see people being happy. They either get jealous, or it makes them think they should be doing more with their lives. I don't use a lot of social media in general BUT yes if my friends are having a great time and living a great life that makes me feel good and it might even inspire me to try new things. People will say" OH those pictures don't show the whole story, they could actually be miserable" But why would you want someone to be miserable? Especially a friend? I hope the pictures are an accurate representation of their lives haha.

I get why someone whose life is not going well may be distressed to see other people living supposedly wonderful lives. They may feel pressured to live a life as perfect as one depicted on social media without realizing that those people are only showing what they want people to see and their lives are not as perfect as they seem. But once you realize this, you can accept social media for what it is: a way to showcase the best parts of your life. Everyone has problems and I know that. I'm not fooled into thinking people have perfect lives just because they only show the best on social media. To me what's really toxic about social media is the tendency for people to put themselves in echo chambers where they're exposed to more extreme and radical content. That's where I think social media is doing the most damage.

I sometimes see repeated happy, happy, happy stuff from people who I know have lives that are a mess. I don’t feel happy for them, I think they’re maybe compounding their misery. But your attitude is a better one.

That's all well and good, but there's a certain narcissistic aspect to people who post EVERYTHING they do that I find tacky and distasteful.

One need not Instagram every meal.

I'm also not cool with people knowing where I am at all times. This would just seem smart not to do.

@666Maggotz I do. I scroll past 90 percent of it. But then they show up to my gigs. They're good people and not textbook narcissists.

I'm chill, just noting some strange behavior. Also, to be cynical of the fronting that occurs on social media.

I guess I just live in la la land where I don’t think about anything lol @uncalled4
