I Have Been Emotional Abused

I spent the last year trying to recover, rediscover, and find myself.

I was emotionally abused for almost 5 years by my now ex-girlfriend. I didn't even realize it was happening until I was way too deep into the relationship. I only ever realized it after we had our daughter, and she used her to get everything from me. She pushed me away from my friends and family, she lied to me about our daughter's needs to get money, she threatened to take away our child, take me to court for child support and lie about unspeakable things. She lied to me about so many things. She kept me in the dark about a lot of things. I think she even cheated on me...

The worst part, despite all the evidence I brought to court, the years of texts, the pictures, the videos... they ignored it all and let her walk away, with 80% custody. It's been hard, living 3,000 miles away from my family, to see my daughter mostly every other weekend.

But I have been working hard to recover from it all. Some days are harder than others, some days I just want to disappear. But most days are okay. I'm reaching stability, mentally and financially, and I am doing everything to be there for my daughter. I finally started dating again and met someone who I care about deeply. Someone who cares about me too... something I haven't had in ages.

@McShay1978 Thank you, it's been hard... but things are getting better! I hope your friend gets through this too, it can seem very impossible at times.

@MrMolderburry it sad that when the father is willing to do everything to be in the child Life that courts 95% go for females. I'm rooting for my friend & now you! Keep your head up& never stop fighting. Your daughter need her daddy!!

It really is, I've sacrificed a lot to stay involved. I've sold most of the things I've owned in my life, moved 3000 miles away from my friends and family, yet they give her everything and don't even consider my concerns or requests.

But I'm never giving up, my daughter loves me and needs me, and maybe when she's older, she'll decide to have more time with dear ol' dad.

@MrMolderburry my friend just spend over 2k this weekend 5o visit his 2 kids and his ex wife said no. He's filing a motion on Monday bc of all the b.s. she's throwing at him. Hate that courts only look 1 side and don't look at whole picture. Hope for the best for you friend. If you need to vent, hit me up. I'll listen& try to offer advice

Wow, that's bullshit... I couldn't even afford to drop $2k right now, but if I had it and I needed to for my daughter, I would without hesitation. And it's things like that which are ignored by the courts. Yeah, traditionally women were the caretakers of children, but this world isn't what it used to be, and dad's are a lot more involved... or at least try to be in some cases.

I wish good luck to your friend, and thank you, I won't hesitate to, McShay!
