I Live With My Parents

I have never lived on my own in my entire life and I am 30 years old at the time of this writing. I have a full time job but I do not earn enough to afford the ridiculous cost of rent on my own, even with a roommate the utilities would break the bank. I work a 12 hour schedule and while I get more time off than I did working 8 hours, the pay of course decreased dramatically. My younger sister is getting married in a few months and already lives with her fiance. All of this just makes me look like a loser in life and I probably am. At this rate, I doubt I'll ever live on my own before the economy finally crashes to the bottom. At least I have a job however, not everyone can say that.

Well, then I say, relax. Nobody else's opinion matters. If your parents are okay with you being there, and you are okay with it, then just let it be.

You are working. Not panhandling. Not allowing mom and dad to support you. So far, you seem to be doing everything right. If the time comes when you want to start a family, you may have to reevaluate your options, but for now........RELAX

@Serenitree, the mortgage is paid off so if the house is lost it would be from a natural disaster. If my parents died in an accident, I would probably inherit the house so I would only have utilities to pay off and that is managable.

And thank you. I would consider the job to be a bit below me, the other coworkers who work different shifts are all immigrants, but I know the state of the economy and would rather stay there than have to jump through the unemployment hurdles again. I've been unemployed 4 times so I'm aware how painful that process can be.

It is a manufacturing position in machine operation (yes, it still exists in America) so I am of a rare breed these days. Many of these types of jobs are located in city areas, far from where I live now. This area is saturated with landscapers who probably have the same idea as far as contracting goes.
I think you're fine.. In Asian cultures people live with their folks forever.. I had an uncle who lived with my grands well past his thirties but now is married and lives elsewhere with his wife and five children..

No need to rush things

@starrykiss, I am part of the baby boomer generation, and oddly enough, all of my kids and grandkids are gainfully employed and not living with family. Except for one grandson who lives in the house and rents the granny suite to his mom.

Zhaich, where would you go? What would you do, if the worst happened and your parents lost the house or died in a car crash?
Very likely that won't happen, but you should have some idea of what you would do, if you suddenly didn't have them to live with.

Congratulations on sticking with a job. So many people are out of work, because they simply won't take a job that they consider to be beneath them.

What kind of work do you do? Is it anything you could do as an independent contractor?
