Do you really think you could teach me?
About hope and kindness and truth
Across the treacherous ocean you’d reach me?
But I’m a rock that seeks only recluse

I wonder if my lands were ever touched
By the washed up and washed away
Or Empire seekers wanting too much
They came, and conquered but did not stay

Do you think my land is worthy?
It’s muddied and dirty and grey
My trees have promised tightly to hold me
As your oceans try pull me away

What becomes of me if I let go?
Of all that I had to break my bones to defend
What is waiting beyond what I refuse to know?
Do you really believe it could be my happy end

You thrash against my heavy wall
Then rush back taking part of me with you
My foundations are weak as I stumble and fall
But your ocean has left as my breath bids adieu

What new lesson is it too late to learn?
Set me on fire, walk away, watch me burn.
