I Want to Own My Own Home.

We're looking into owning a tiny home & buying or renting some land cause rent is too damn high, section 8 is getting worse, no one wants to roommate with us (for long), mom may not be able to drive soon (we live in the car, parent's disabilites worsening) & family can be effed up...so anyway, any tips or suggestions? Any good sites? I wanna see what are our options are. Are you able to buy a small portion of land on buying land sites? Cause some are as much as half a million, thats way too much money & land, aiming for 200 sq ft of land. If it helps, we're in California. How good is solar, ways to maximize it? Back in our house we mostly used the 1-2 TVs & tablet, lil bit daily of coffee machine, blender & microwave etc.. Also, where can I find members of the tiny home movement?
There are some seriously cool tiny homes. Solar is expensive with a relatively slow pay off. It would probably be cheaper for you to be linked to the grid.

I don't know about members. But there are some pretty cool things you can do with old shipping containers or a from scratch build. Be careful of your local building codes though.
@MarsSword: Yeah, I'm aware of the expense of solar but it looks like its 5 times weaker than electricity since I have a solar/electric charger. Hearing metal & glass can amplify that but I don't have the opportunity to test how viable it is. Then again, electric is fairly cheap. It would be nice to be off the grid. I wanna fast pace this process but also dont wanna end up screwed cause of the land's history or codes. My mom's wrist are weakning so her driving soon may be ill considered. Mhmm, I also know about sheds & shippinv containers being used as sleeping quarters, it can be a backhouse. Many are lead to believe they have to work like a slave just to barely get a place. I refuse that & I'm hoping I can let others know this before they're homeless too cause they can no longer afford an apt or house or they get disabled (Social Security is such a long process). I am also looking into giving away tiny homes & sheds to the needy too but I see how some cities are being a bitch regarding that so yeah, gotta be cautious.
