I Care About Homeless People

So I drove down to the newest shopping center in the area last week. There was a man with a woman, I assume was his wife and 2 small children holding a sign asking for money. I went through the drive thru at one of the restaurants and got a couple kids meals and a couple sandwiches. I pulled up and handed them the bags and said I was going to call the police so they could go to a shelter. He called me a jerk and yelled at me for calling the police on him. I told him it was not meant to be a mean gesture and pulled off. It really bothered me so I turned around and pulled back in the parking lot and see them getting in a brand new car, and the wrappers and empty bags of food on the ground where they had been standing. I really did not have extra money to spare since I had been unemployed for over a year and just started a new job this week but I felt bad for the kids. I had good intentions and it appears I helped someone that didn't need it instead of someone that truly needed it.

I know a man who used to panhandle for a living. He could make between $200-500/day he said! It blew me away when he told me. I used to give a lot of people food and cash, which I don't have an excess of either, but not anymore.
There used to be a guy that would stand on the side of the road begging everyday for money.. and then he'd walk a mile down the road to Lowes and get in a really nice suv. He was caught and I haven't seen him since.

I have never given them actual money, I have given them food but not money. I guess it really bugged me that he had his wife and kids there too.

I wish they would all get caught. I don't know how people can use others like that :-(

It isn't about me. Yes I was out money I didn't have but that's fine... whatever. I feel for those kids being taught by example. They think it is ok and how things are supposed to work. How are they going to grow up? Are they going to be a drain on the rest of society? Will they make anything out of their lives?

I agree completely. Here in the bay area we see this all over. It's heart breaking, if it's true. I always feel really bad when they have a dog...
