I have three. My first name is the name of my father's father, my middle name is the name of my mother's father, and then there is the family name.

@DrWatson Normally my last name would have been my Dad’s first name with dóttir at the end of it but my parents decided to use the US way of doing last names since we live here. It’s just easier.

@JustGoneNow Cool. It occurs to me that there are a lot of family names in English that end in "son", but I am unaware of any ending to a name that means "daughter."

@DrWatson Normally, my last name only would have ended in son if I were a boy instead. It literally means son or daughter of the father’s first name.

@DrWatson Sort of irrelevant, though, because I just kept my Dad’s last name like they do in the US, so my last name ends in son even though I’m a girl.
