I Am a Highly Sensitive Person

I can't watch the news or read the paper. I hate it when someone posts a graphic video or picture on FB. I've always believed that that it is just another cruelty to someone who is already suffering if we look the other way. Later it was brought up to me that it's not wrong for me to filter out emotionally charged and disturbing material if it's to protect myself. It's just too easy for me to put myself in the shoes of someone else. The majority of the time I keep myself away from it so I don't go nuts. Just enough has to slip through so I can be socially functional. I still often come across as unfeeling and cold.

It is interesting how HSPs independently and without referring to one another end up using the same strategies against the harsh realities of life. My daughter too is an HSP and could not read many of the novels required in her High School curriculum because of their corrosive content.
