I Had a Skunk Encounter

A Very Fragrant Night Indeed!... The last two times I went to my usual skunk habitats by the lake, I was saddened to find myself walking around for 2-3+ hours never to find any sign of skunks. I was nearly completely resigned to just finding another location. I scouted another lake tonight to also come up short, but went back to the original "just in case" and lo and behold, just as I'm cursing myself for wasting gas money and time a beautiful bold-striped skunk ran right past me and into one of the storm drains they like to use for shelter. I looked in with my camera's flash as a light and saw that it was a simple two-way drain with either one not being more than 8 feet apart, so I knew I could just wait out the little stinker. As I stood there waiting I noticed again a streak of black-and-white and immediately gave chase. I tripped and fell a couple of times on wet grass and fence wires, but picked myself up and kept going until I grabbed the little stinker's tail.

That glorious raining stink felt like dew on my skin, and I kept provoking more and more sprays by lightly tapping the skunk on the thighs, rubbing in that glorious skunk oil as it pelted me and even (because I deliberately left my goggles at home) blinding me painfully as the spray hit both eyes. Though the skunk did attempt to bite me a few times, I was extra careful not to allow it and got away bite-free but was absolutely coated in Parfum De Mouffette!

I walked back to my car sniffing happily and bl<x>inking like mad (the painful blinding effect lasted around 10 minutes, I'd say), drinking deeply of my new scent and enjoying all it could do for me. When I got home, I had to jump the fence to come in through the back yard and that, unfortunately, alerted the dogs which barked like mad and woke my mom and her fiancee. They investigated the barking only to find me stinking up the place on my mad dash to my room (I would've just crawled in through my window but the last time I did that the neighbors thought we were being burglarized, and I was instructed to use the back door ONLY).

The only problem I'm running into now is that I'm perfumed nicely but there's no one around online or offline right now to enjoy it with me. I'm going to try to stay skunked as long as I can, but obviously if I'm going to be out in society that can't be longer than a day at most.

Well I did deodorize after 2 days and it's been a few weeks, so now I only smell mildly on my fingers (since they got the majority of the spray) when in a humid environment.

There is some video, if you can find it. Used to be on YouTube, but the account was suspended. There's an episode of Nigel's Wild World about the 5 senses, and when they get to the sense of smell and taste, Nigel demonstrates smell by going to New Mexico and having Jerry Dragoo, the skunk expert help him get sprayed by one of his skunks. He then goes to the local mall still fully skunked and walks around on escalators, sits on benches next to people, etc. and they tape everyone's reactions (mostly people getting up and leaving). Hilarious.
