I Am a Good Listener

I am quite a good listener and in real life I tend to collect talkative extroverts as friends. Well one way friends as they tend to do all the talking.

Today was an odd instance though. I'm away on vacation swimming in the pool. The kids fell in with the other boys and girls their age splashing around. One little girl, peels away from the group and ends up next to me along the wall. She's talking up a storm about how she's visiting grandma (we all are, it's the pool in an over 55 community) and she doesn't go to the pool at her mom's house or her dad's house. "They are getting a divorce," she says with a matter of fact ness in her voice that doesn't hide the suddenly sad look in her eyes. "I wish they could just re marry each other," she said. Then she launched into an explanation of who's house she's at on what day that required a spreadsheet for me to follow.

It was a random and very detailed look into the life of a stranger. A six year old stranger. (!) She swam back away to join the splash fight in progress and I thought to myself. "What just happened? My own kids don't talk to me this much."
