The Truth Apparently

Yesterday me and my father were talking about jobs. I've told him that I've been applying to jobs that deal with animals but haven't had luck yet. Its been 3 years of searching but I do believe eventually I will. But my father came out and said that my dream is unrealistic. At my brother's graduation from college there was over 100 people who graduated from animal care. I dont have a diploma. I've done animal courses online and I have my pet CPR. My father also said that most people have jobs that they hate and will never get there dream job. All my family except my brother have always complain about there jobs. I do hope that i find a job i will like.
It sucks doesn't it, although now I'm kinda thinking if I can work in a well paid job I can at least donate a significant amount to charities and volunteer instead 😀

@Zombee agree.

I feel ya. Even if I can’t work directly with animals I’m aiming to at least be in their environment.
GreenNatured95 · 26-30, F
@Deadish Animals I find with a job makes it enjoyable. They are grateful that your there
Deadish · 31-35, M
@GreenNatured95 perhaps you can try volunteering at an animal shelter to get experience?
GreenNatured95 · 26-30, F
@Deadish I tried some of the closer ones near me haven’t need volunteers recently will keep trying
Wildlife rehab places alwys need good people. Kennel people who are ethical and kind are badly needed in most places.

Also jobs in doggy day care places are often hiring

You father is speaking bitter workaday reality but if you try very hard and look for jobs that are right for you and don't stop..you will find something

I feel exactly like you, I wanted to do that and had one kennel manager job and then afterwards was old enough to be passed over everywhere due to my age, even though thats illegal in every state

@Elevatorpitches thank you for the words of encouragement. I'm not glad that you've gone through the same experience. But at least I know I'm not the only one going through this.

I have a Bachelors in English but never used it. I don’t know if you might have better luck with a degree that focuses specifically on the career you want, but in the US a Bachelors alone is no longer a guarantee of a good job that could potentially support a family. It seems like every job that seems interesting to me requires me to do things I just can’t will myself to do to prepare for them.

@JP1119 Keep on trying you'll never know something will come up.
JP1119 · 36-40, M
@GreenNatured95 You too!
MrAboo · 36-40, M
Keep trying, but they do want hands on experience
GreenNatured95 · 26-30, F
@MrAboo how can you do hands on if you dont give someone a chance.
MrAboo · 36-40, M
@GreenNatured95 a vet tech position requires you to work at a vet for so many hours for 2 years, whether that’s free or otherwise is another story. I tried doing the vet tech class through penn fosters, but changed my mind 3 months in.

You could try calling vet offices that are hiring and just see where things go. The animal industry is very competitive because everyone wants in on the cool jobs.
GreenNatured95 · 26-30, F
@MrAboo agree it’s one of those jobs that a lot people want to get into
Good luck, even jobs you love sometimes aren't pleasant
GreenNatured95 · 26-30, F
@Justafantasy thank you. Agree with that.
