In Episode V, why are Leia, Han, Chewie, and C3PO put in the same jail cell?

Logistically, wouldn't it be safer to imprison them separately? Possibilty of them planning an escape especially with Chewie there? Were they trying to be humane to them by giving Han and Leia time before freezing him? But then why torture Han for no reason? Maybe to comfort Leia but not Han being that Lando likes her and she is a woman?

How would you wrap your head around this?
