If you havent read them yet, I'd recommend getting "The Last Command" series by Timothy Zahn. It's an amazing trilogy and worth of being the "last three" of the original series.
Fun fact: The Star Wars: A New Hope screenplay was based on a book, Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker, which was _not_ written by George Lucas! The book was written by Alan Dean Foster (another AMAZING sci-fi/fantasy author who also wrote more Star Wars books) and then converted into a movie by Lucas. :)
