I Love Fireside Chats
I am setting up an organisation, called Open Firesides. I will not be advertising it in its real form, because that reduces the anonymity of this sacred place SimilarWorlds. But, I would like to maintain an online space here, to compliment the physical thing I'm involved with.
I will curate a safe space around the fireside, an alternative Friday night, at which people can hide behind the partial anonymity afforded by the darkness and dancing firelight, yet come forward and talk about experiences they simply didn't (or still don't) get. The audience will respond to these things automatically, and it is my intention to guide equal respect through exploration of these reactions. Where do they come from, why do you think like that, how can anyone else relate to that? The kinds of questions everyday life gets in the way of asking. The kinds of questions that give us understanding and compassion for each other.
This space will not be time-pressured, like 1-1 sessions with therapists where you get 40min to get as much out of it as you possibly can for fear of wasting that £40. Here you have all night if you want it, to explore or sit quietly and observe, as you wish.
Above all else will be the drive to generate respect in equal measure for your own views and emotions, as well as those of everybody else - no matter their reasoning or background. I believe this is vital to building an inclusive future, and I welcome you to join me in your expressions.
