I Am the Same Online and Off

WHO ARE WE?

I've noticed that there are a lot of people who seem to think that we can't find any sincere people online. That everything is a lie. Yet, those same people are the ones who will say they never lie. Their profile is real, and they never pretend to be anything but what they are.

Are they under the impression that they are really the only honest ones in the world? Or are they the great pretenders? If they believe everyone lies, what does that make them?

I admit, sometimes I exaggerate, or obfuscate, and sometimes the stories I tell, are hypothetical "what if? or for instance!" kind of thing. But I don't then turn around and say everybody else is fake. I happen to like people, but I do tend to mistrust those who claim to be the only honest people here. I trust first, and doubt only after having been accused of something. If you accuse me of something I'm not doing, I'm going to wonder about you. Simple? Yes. My mom used to say "Evil thinkers are evil doers" I believe she was right.

I think there are a lot of very sincere people online. I agree that some people may allow themselves the liberty of being abusive online, perhaps because they are abused in someway offline and too fearful to fight back in real life, but I don't believe it's everyone, nor even a majority.

I think most people online, are pretty much who they are in real life, only more open about it.

I think you summarized the whole thing quite well.

When I read what you wrote, "Evil thinkers are evil doers" a thing that Carl Jung wrote popped into my mind. He said that what irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.

I also think that for many people being online and anonymous lowers their inhibitions like alcohol does. So they are more inclined to say what they really think or feel at that moment.

I think so too, but that doesn't make them liars or fakes. It just makes them who they are, only freer.

Thank you Serenitree 💖 I can say I've met more more sincere people on the net then off. But I've met very sincere people off.

Well written. :-)

I tend to think those whom accuse others like you mentioned, are themselves guilty. They recognize it within themselves first. Which ties into the "Evil thinkers are evil doers"..Why would they even spend time worrying about others like that.

Indeed there are some sincere people here.

"Evil thinkers are evil doers" - you had a wise mom. I also believe the same. My online persona actually helps me in real life as I want the two to be one in the same. If that makes sense. I have learned to be more me in real life because I've been able to test it out online. But that's always a goal... To be same person.
