I Have Learned A Lot, But There Is Much More To Learn

It was not until I was well into middle age that I finally noticed something about the song "Jingle Bells." It is arguably the most traditional Christmas Carol of all, yet it never mentions Christmas or any other holiday. It is just a song about winter sledding. We may as well sing it in February!

Jame pierport was given the credit for writing the “song “ in the mid 1800’s , as he put a whistle and words to the tune , but it was a Germanic dance tune , written of the squeeze box and danced in public house in Europe from a about 1709 ,

@Wishingwellguy Interesting. We have a videotape at home of what looks like a 1950's cartoon to the tune of Jingle Bells, and the music does sound as if it is being played on a squeezebox or accordion.

It brings back memories of the one sleigh ride I had on the farm, we got a deep snow before I started to school and we got to ride through the deep snow in a horse-drawn sleigh.

@cherokeepatti I have never done that.

@DrWatson I wish I could do it again, snow doesn't get deep enough here in Oklahoma for that here but maybe every 10 years or so, so no one's got a sleigh to pull, plenty of horses here though!

@cherokeepatti Here in Minnesota we have plenty of snow and a good supply of horses, but no sleighs. Everyone seems to have a snowmobile! ;)
