I Am Healthy

I am blessed with good health. That is a good thing because I am a poor patient. I don't listen to what the doctors say, I never follow orders and I never rest like they tell me to.

With that being said, last week, I was quietly working. I bent over to the left to put a piece of paper in my filing pile and suddenly felt excruciating pain. It started next to my breastbone and moved to the left.

I contacted 2 of my friends telling them that I was doubled over in pain. Greeneyedlady72, who is an RN, was trying to help me over the phone. "Go to the ER" she said. It could be your spleen, pancreas or gallbladder. Diablesse said "Go to the ER".. Thank you lovies for your kindness.

I waited. Overnight. I could not move, I could not bend or turn. The next morning, I drove myself to the ER.

The ER doctor asked if I worked out. Sure. LOTS...I replied. She felt I had broken my floating rib due to some kind of trauma considering how much in pain I was. Off I went for an xray to make sure I had not punctured the lung. Nope. Good news.

They don't take xrays of ribs because it takes too much radiation and there is nothing they can do. However, I also had this painful condition called costochondritis, Inflammation of the rib cage.

My blood work came back excellent and they put me on pain killers and anti-inflammatories. My last question was when can I go back to the gym. She said one week.

For anyone who knows me, I work out and have for over 30 years. It is like breathing to me. I need this for my mental health. One week seemed like an eternity.

I gave it a couple of days and I couldn't stand it anymore. I went to the gym and walked the treadmill. I went into the kickboxing class. I did it low intensity.

I went home and watched the grass growing. Hey, if I don't bend over, I can mow it really quick. And hey, let me put these new plants in. and clean off the patio. You get the picture.

I could not move most of the weekend. I am going home in less than 2 weeks. I have to get rid of this football size pouch of inflammation I am carrying around so....I will be good and stay at home for the next few days. AND take the meds. sigh.

I guess the spirit is willing and the flesh is weak certainly applies to me. I am grateful I am not really incapacitated or I would really be upset.

Have you tried the backpod ? People say it works wonders for costochondritis

I am a littler older than you, not necessarily wiser. Follow the good doctor's advice. As you feel better do more. Ribs are a bitch and seem to take forever to heal. Anyway I hope you have a better week.

How are you now?Still on painkillers?I can understand that pain since I am under going a spinal treatment. I am in rest most of the time and my movements are restricted.
Your positive attitude will help you to overcome the problem soon I hope.

Please listen to the doctor and all of your friends. Take-it-easy... That means just that, easy. Otherwise you're not going to heal and you'll hate missing the reunions. Please???? Love you sweetheart.....

Do take care of yourself! Like that old Fram oil filter commercial: "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later." Pay now, by following the Dr.'s orders... Mkay? <3

I had a bout of costochondritis many years ago. Nothing much to do but take the NSAIDs as prescribed and (try to) take it easy...
