I'm trying very hard this week to keep myself from buying a bunch of finches to live freely in my apartment. I know it'd be a disaster and they'd be destructive, but I love them. 😟
remember terms. remember also there's others living there with health issues.
IE: allergies.
and improper care can lead to spread/transmission of disease. though the birds may be disease free.
watch out for feces.
AND, if there's a pet rent. some of that pet rent is freaking expensive!!!!
and make sure before you get any animal, especially those who are stealthy, that they can't escape, get trapped, lost in the vents, under equipment, appliance and other.
Finches are great. But if you had them flying freely, you would need to be very careful. They can hurt themselves so easily. Flying into the blades of ceiling fans. Flying into mirrors or windows. Also, if you get males and females, you will have them nesting in some unexpected places.
If you have a spare room, you could get a very large cage. And I guess a chair for you. Leave the cage opened so they can come and go as they please. But keep the door closed. No mirrors. Keep the window covered. Make sure to have breeding nests inside the cage so they will use them.

True. I wouldn't want that at all. Poor little birds.
I read it right after I wrote this. The screen door idea is brilliant. I didn't think of that. It was my only concern, that the birds might be too close to the door and get injured upon opening it.
She's known as the bird lady. People bring her chicks that have fallen out of nests or injured birds and she takes care of em. Some she releases when they have healed up.
They move so quickly, it's hard to actually see them. They are light coloured on their underside, so nearly invisible against the sky. The only way I actually know I'm seeing finches, is by their flight pattern.
