DAY #1: Strong Winds and Following Seas!

ANZ234-140600-
Buzzards Bay-
116 PM EDT Mon May 13 2019

GALE WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING

THIS AFTERNOON
E winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft. Rain.

TONIGHT
NE winds 20 to 25 kt, diminishing to 15 to 20 kt after midnight. Gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft. Patchy fog. Rain. Vsby 1 to 3 NM.

Cleared Woods Hole a couple hours ago and currently running downwind along the western shore of Buzzards Bay with just the storm jib up. Seas are a bit crazy and the boat is surfing down the back side of the swells. Given the forecast, there won't be any night sailing tonight. I'll set in somewhere, likely around Newport, and drop anchor for the evening. Rain is steady, visibility about a mile.

Very rough outline of today's sail (75nm)

Mother nature not cooperating
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@vetguy1991 Oh no, she's cooperating just fine. She's just a bit more enthusiastic than I at the moment about getting me out of New England waters. The wind is now directly at my back and blowing steady at about 20 knots. We are right at that point where I *could* raise the main if I wanted, but the gusts are still a bit too strong for my liking.

@sarabee1995 ok but rain can't be fun
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@vetguy1991 Oh, the rain? Doesn't bother me a bit. I have my rain gear on so I'm dry inside. :) Plus, it's coming at my back, so not so bad as sailing into the rain.

@sarabee1995 ok good deal

@vetguy1991 👍️

@vetguy1991 Winds down to about 15 knots and haven't recorded a gust over 20-25 knots in over an hour so the main is up now and we are cruising along! :)

@sarabee1995 sara of the sea underway
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@vetguy1991 Oh we were underway for thirteen hours yesterday, but the sail plan needs to be adjusted constantly to current conditions. So for about ninety minutes yesterday when things whipped up good the mainsail was down and I was running the jib only at about 60%.
