I Want To Know Where Real Journalism Has Gone

I am really confused of what journalism is all about. I just got a job at an online newspaper. I work my ass off to write an article and the editor completely rewrites everything that I wrote. Even though I did the interview, it doesn't feel like my paper. What is the point of me interviewing people and writing an article when the editor is just going to turn my article into anything she wants? She could have just done the interview herself then. What does she need me for? Yes, my name may be on the article and I'm getting paid for it but I do not feel like showing people my articles because the editor's fingerprints are all over it. In movies and shows, they make it seem as if someone writes an award winning article all on their own and it's 100% their own. They don't tell you how much control an editor has over a reporter's work.

My sis went to school for Journalism and she complained about this issue as well. All the stories she wrote were basically rewritten. Almost as if she didn't have a voice. It's a shame that it's like that. hopefully it will get better.

@sweetiepoo: Yeah same. That's how I feel. Like I have no voice. That's why I'm glad I didn't go into journalism. It would have felt like a waste of a major. It makes you wonder what the truth is. Even with books. If all of the best written lines were really written by the authors or by the editors?
