I Wear Briefs

The 90s were a strange time. Grunge and glam went head to head, and for the most part grunge won. This meant way more loose fitting clothing, plaid everywhere, holes in pants that would have earlier gotten them thrown away. All this also lead to the rise of your grandfather's underwear to prominence once again... the boxer short. This garment that provides no support and offered little in the way of style (aside from the previously mentioned plaid and the ubiquitous Christmas patterns) became the norm.

Boxers rode up and bunched up, which lead to millions of men adjusting themselves in public. Men chose to wear boxers because it was the "in thing" even though they were inferior. We convinced ourselves that "we liked the room" and "the other guys will make fun of me for wearing briefs." Men who wear boxers are increase your risk of physical injury to your genitals, and boxers are also linked to hernia issues. Boxers also do little to camouflage when their contents become excited... which made middle school all that more awkward for a lot of boys.

As the 90's gave way to the 2000's, and grunge fashion slowly fell by the wayside, men discovered in increasing numbers that the boxer short was not the best choice, but they still remember being taunted in the changing room for their tighty whiteys in middle school. Now grown men, they were still insecure about what other men thought of their underwear so they still refused to wear briefs. Enter the boxer brief. Better support, form fitting, and less likely to ride up.

Now I'll admit, even I owned a few pairs of these, but they still ride up, and can be tight on the thighs. They solve some of the problems of boxers, but are only a half solution, designed to let men still try to be "cool" in the locker room, while sacrificing comfort.

Now I'm not advocating for tighty whiteys to make a comeback. They two have their drawbacks. Briefs have come a long way since that fateful day of bullying back in middle school phy-ed. Those old briefs did little to flatter, and were poorly designed in general.

The briefs I'm advocating for all men to have in their underwear drawers are designed to fit your anatomy. They are pouch briefs- which feature the support you need, while still giving you the room you also need.

Briefs accomplish what underwear should. It provides support, keeps everything from moving around, and have no extra fabric to bunch up or ride up. They are really good for men with an active lifestyle- men who play sports, work out, or work on their feet all day.

For those of you worried about sperm counts- that is an old wives tale. According to Dr. Philip Werthman, director of the Center for Male Reproductive Medicine “Studies have been done to analyze temperatures of men who wear boxers versus briefs, and it makes absolutely no difference in fertility.”

So what are you waiting for- go buy a few pairs- try them out. I'm confident you'll agree that briefs are the superior male underwear.
