There are a number of reasons such as in the past they provided a very accurate way of monitoring what I was recording because I could only hear that and nothing else.
I also enjoy them because I like listening to music wherever I go from portable playback equipment that these days may continue hundreds of albums I can just select and being high quality ones they sound very realistic not least when I listen say to piano music.
