the more it's advertised, the less I want it

I have a massive distrust and disdain for adverts. So, if I see an ad, I tend to not want the item being advertised. Am I somehow unique in this attitude? because companies seem to think the more they show an ad repeatedly, the more people want that product. Isn't there a saying about insanity with that?
