I Want to Cheer You Up
Jake: No one cares about me.
Marilu: Why do you say that?
Jake: All everyone does is get offended.
Marilu: Do you actually think that no one cares about you?
Jake: Pretty much.
Marilu: See but you don’t have to feel alone in that though. Generally speaking unless you are related, pleasing, productive, and harmless, or making progress towards that, no one cares about anyone. By care I mean to want to be in the same room with. I mean do you care about someone who doesn’t do one single thing you want?
Jake: I don’t want to be in the same room with them, no.
Marilu: You see dude, that’s just how it is man. Don’t feel like it’s just “you”, trust me, I think every single one of us realize how functional we are to others’ desires has a lot to do with how well we’re accepted or wanted.
Jake: So everything is... fake?
Marilu: We don’t have to try to define it other than what it is. We can laugh, be so joyful, and happy with those who please us, have invested in our lives to teach us, listen to us. We can make genuine connections with others through being ourselves, through being honest.
Jake: But it can just disappear in a matter of seconds when the person becomes someone you dread being in the same room with?
Marilu: I mean yeah. There are those who have given their lives for people who mistreated them to the point they aren’t here with us anymore. They had a desire in their mind, an ideal, a fear that kept them in that situation, where they chose to stay.
Jake: It’s not so simple Marilu. Choice, choice, everyone talks about free will. Free will is a myth. We’re all just trapped playing puppet to others or making puppets for ourselves.
Marilu: Hold up though Jake. We didn’t ask to exist since you have to exist first before you can ask for anything. We didn’t choose our bodies, mind, instincts, or what this world contains that we were born... into.
Jake: Yeah my point exactly.
Marilu: Granted you didn’t choose what the world contains, but from what it contains you may create something new, from the raw materials around you. Like all these inventions that prior to this generation, didn’t exist. Or from the words we are taught, you can create your own form of expression, a piece, a poem, a book, that reflects your observations, your personal feelings. You are born to a world with options, you didn’t choose the options you were born into, but there are still options nonetheless. So okay maybe there isn’t absolute free will, but there is free will in a limited form.
Jake: Okay.
Marilu: All of us have so much in common. We are biased towards the survival and satisfaction of our species in defining right and wrong, seen as we maneuver plant and animal. We have desires. We fight or flee from those who contradict our desires. We go towards and love those who we find pleasure in and fulfill our desires.
Jake: When you put it like that it seems so....
Marilu: The trick is to not think about it though. To just laugh and cease to label others the best you can because you feel a degree of empathy with everyone around you man. Dude you’re not alone Jake. If there is someone who can create magic from these raw materials we were born into and didn’t choose prior to our existence, it’s you 😊
Jake: Thanks Marilu! I don’t feel as angry anymore. I appreciate you, I’ll try haha.
