I Have a Soundtrack of My Life

I noticed that there were songs that seemed to mirror the events of my life or at least what was happening at the time. The first time I noticed it, was in the 60’s, with my first girlfriend.
I had graduated High School & was working, my girlfriend was still in High School. I guess you could say we were “good kids”. We had met at church where her father was one of the Deacons & I was the oldest member of the church youth group.
We had been dating about a year or so & as most kids did, we went to the drive-in quite often. One drive-in was very convenient, it was right next door to where my girlfriend lived. As a matter of fact, the gate that they opened to let the cars leave after the movies, was just a couple of doors down from her house, right on the street she lived on. Which made it real convenient when I dropped her off at home, at the end of the night.
As I said, we were “good kids” but that didn’t mean that we didn’t get quite passionate sitting in the back seat. Although it never went too far (much to my disappointment) there was a lot of kissing & cuddling, usually during the second feature or when the movie was slow moving. That’s where this story really starts.
Anyway, one night we went to the drive-in, crawled in the back & kissed & snuggled thru most of the movie. When the passions ran their course, we cuddled & then dozed. The next thing I remember was opening my eyes & watching what was on the big screen. It looked very familiar. Then I realized that it was the movie we had already watched….it was in the middle of the first feature we had already seen. I checked my watch & panicked. It was 1:30 am. We were very late. I woke my girlfriend up & we straighten ourselves up, got back in the front seats & headed for the exit. It only took us a few minutes to get her home but we were sure we were dead.
Now, depending on your age, you may have guessed which song this date seems to mirror. It was a little song done by a couple of guys called The Everly Brothers. it goes:

Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Wake up, little Susie, wake up
We’ve both been sound asleep, wake up, little Susie, and weep
The movie’s over, it’s four o’clock, and we’re in trouble deep
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, well

Whatta we gonna tell your mama
Whatta we gonna tell your pa
Whatta we gonna tell our friends when they say “ooh-la-la”
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, well

I told your mama that you’d be in by ten
Well Susie baby looks like we goofed again
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, we gotta go home

Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Wake up, little Susie, wake up
The movie wasn’t so hot, it didn’t have much of a plot
We fell asleep, our goose is cooked, our reputation is shot
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie

Well, it wasn’t 4 o’clock (THANK GOD) & we were able to smooth things over with her parents. Like I said, we were good kids, so we got the benefit of the doubt, on being so late, & on the promise that it would NEVER happen again; which it didn't.
Oh, by the way, my girlfriends name...….Sue.
