While it might be of some benefit to a proportion of students, to far too many it would be either derisory/ineffective, or traumatic: and lead to an overall increase in brutality and violence. I think any benefit overall would be outweighed by the negative effects.

Discipline is different from punishment. Discipline involves setting guidelines, being an involved parent, and helping them make wise choices. Not physical abuse.

Agree. The school should have some effective ways to impose discipline on students, but the "modern" methods do not seem to be effective in any way. On the contrary.
