remarkably authentic pictures. Like you, takes me back to my school days. No wonder the boy in the second picture looks apprehensive - touching your toes for the cane and staying there needed huge willpower.

Your Scout leaders used the cane? I didn't think the Scouts used physical punishment at all. I never had what in any case was a rare last resort in my schools, but sometimes feel now I need introducing to it!

@ArishMell both Scouts and Girl Guides have used corporal punishment historically.

Thank you. The Scout Movement probably abolished it before I joined in the 1960s - but they'd also already modernised many of their practices including the names (dropping 'Boy' and 'Girl') and the uniforms.
I've never had the school cane and slipper - and would not have wanted them! - but for some reason feel I need helping to accept needing them occasionally, especially by someone with real, past experience.
