I Have Issues

I struggle with recognising subtlety. I always have done.
I never really know how to take someone and it's even more difficult on social media because I can't see their facial expressions.
I've learned over time to ape or mimic what an appropriate response is but even then sometimes I'm waaaaaaay off the mark.
So, at times, I ask a lot of questions to try and ensure that I am reading the situation correctly however this can piss a lot of people off as it's conversation they want not the bloody Spanish inquisition.

🤷🏻‍♂️

Your situation is not unique and guaranteed to spread among younger people who know almost no social interactions other than by way of the internet.

You've hit the nail on the head. Communication is much more than just the words one puts forth, but the tone of voice, inflection, body language, and facial expression, as well.

I can say, "I'm going to shoot you."
Just reading it, it's a threat. But if you could add the other elements along with the words, you'd find I was doing an overly comic John Wayne impression while waddling around the room like a penguin (and smiling at you).
Now it's an obvious joke.

The internet is not the perfect device upon which to talk to other people. It's just handy.
