I Was Laid Off
Twice... I have been laid off twice.
The first time as a co-op for an engineering firm. At least I saw it coming. When the VP can't get his check cashed, the Japanese affiliate sends somebody to make recommendations, and the stock drops to 6 cents on the market, you know the company is in trouble.
The 2nd time I was working at a computer assembly plant as a temporary employee and never saw it coming. I had to drive two hours to get there at 6 am (luckily this was back when gas was 79 cents per gallon). I got there one morning at 6 am as usual and all of us temps were told are services were no longer needed. Eh, couldn't you have called me before I drove across state lines to get here.
Neither time was it pleasant.
